Diabetes, Other Health Conditions That Raise COVID-19 Risk
Studies show that your chances of getting severe COVID-19 are higher if you have diabetes, chronic lung disease, heart disease, or other health problems.
Experts already know that people aged 65 and above have greater odds of getting severe COVID-19. But recent reports reveal the hard data on the risks for people with underlying conditions. Diabetes, chronic lung disease, and heart disease were the most frequently reported problems of those with severe COVID-19. People with these conditions were also more likely to end up in the hospital.
Researchers found that more than 70% of those who had COVID-19 and at least one underlying condition went to intensive care units (ICUs) or regular hospital rooms.(source)
Reports say people with diabetes, chronic lung disease, or heart disease should take the same precautions as everyone to prevent COVID-19. Wash hands, practice social distancing, and follow the stay-at-home directions of government authorities.
Summary- While anyone who doesn't take proper precaution or comes into direct contact with the corona virus may be infected by it, people with underlying conditions like diabetes are more likely suffer severe health problems due to COVID-19.
